It was originally built on August 19, 1942 for the Army Air Force, serial 42-4545, and was eventually purchased by Piedmont Aviation in 1986, where it was restored to the configuration of the DC-3s that Piedmont flew between 1948 and 1963.
It is now owned by the Carolinas Historic Aviation Commission in North Carolina with only 14,000 total hours on the airframe.
Preserved in Carolinas Aviation Museum.
